Paul writes with incredible certainty in Philippians 3.21. I’m convinced it is a verse we need to focus on more often. Via inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he says:
He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of his glorious body,
by the power that enables him to subject everything to himself.
Imagine that. A new body! Completely redesigned. Completely updated ... from the present humble condition into something glorious, just like the new body Jesus received in the resurrection. This new body will be free from sin, weakness, sorrow, disappointment, pain, suffering, doubt, fear, temptation, hate, and failure. It will be perfect! Our body will finally become what God intended from the beginning.
This serves as powerful motivation as we struggle with our physical bodies while on earth. We regularly contend with weakness and the flesh, but this is not our ultimate fate. Our frailness will be turned into glory.
When we get our new body, we will be able to be in the presence of the Father. In Revelation, John wrote: Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and will be their God, Revelation 21.3. We will see God! We will be with Him! Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God, Matthew 5.8. And further expounding on what heaven will be like, John said, The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will worship him. They will see His face, and his name will be on their foreheads, Revelation 22.3-4. Finally, the separation will be removed! Perfect fellowship with God and all our brothers and sisters, throughout all eternity.
This is the end view of Paul’s writing in Romans 8.29 where he looks ahead to our being conformed to the image of Christ. We will experience, in totality, perfect joy (Matthew 25.21), pleasure (Psalm 16.11), knowledge (1 Corinthians 13.12), comfort (Luke 16.25), and love (1 Corinthians 13.13).
By what will all this happen? Our transformation will occur by the same power He uses to subject everything to himself, Philippians 3.21. If Jesus has the power to rule over the universe, bringing everything under His authority, then we should have full trust in His ability to bring our body back from its weak or frail condition, even the dead, raising it to eternal glory. He has more than enough energy (the Greek word in our text) to transform the body of a believer into His image.
So, again, please see the certainty with which all these things will happen. As God’s sons and daughters, we place our faith in the rock-solid promises of God, who is incapable of telling a lie. This is the ultimate healing we are all eagerly awaiting for ... hastening the day of our Lord’s return. O Lord come!
