Friday First: God's Plan for the Home

Our new study on the home fits in so well with the theme for this year of being well rooted and grounded in the faith. The home is crucial and plays an integral part in nurturing our spiritual life. The home is very important to God … in fact, He created the home before He created the church. It is, a masterpiece of creation that reveals God’s character like nothing in the rest of creation. In the home we observe how the love of the husband and wife demonstrate Christ’s devotion to His bride, the church. In the home, through the blessing of parenthood, we learn a compelling picture of God’s tenderness and patience toward us as His children.

This summer at Cornerstone we will take a deep dive into the study of the Biblical family, marriage, relationships, and parenting. It’s so very important. If the family is weak, society will be weak. If the family is strong, society will be strong. The family is the bedrock of the church. Strong families make strong churches. A church, community, or nation will rise no higher than the spiritual condition of its families. If the family disintegrates, so does the nation … and the church.

This series is important for everyone in the church. Even if you are single, an empty nester, divorced, or widowed, you are valued and important to this church family … you have a place in it. You, by your experiences can help others … pointing the way to Christ-like living no matter the circumstances in which you dwell.

On Sunday we will talk about:

• God’s original design for marriage and family
• God’s intent for marriage

As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.

1. Why did God create woman?
2. What was Adam’s reaction when God brought Eve to her?
3. How does Genesis 2.24 serves as the model for marriage and family?
4. What does the leaving in Genesis 2.24 mean?
5. Do we have any right to change God’s arrangement for the family? Explain.
