Friday First - Following Great Christians
During January we are spending time in spiritual self examination. As we ask the question, Am I Rooted, we are looking at some probing questions while offering practical solutions to become more effective spiritually.
Who was a hero for you when you were growing up? A president? Civil rights leader? An astronaut? John Wayne? Your parents? Elders? A poll reports that the majority of Americans point to their parents as their heroes, but other than that they have no heroes.
On Sunday we’ll talk about spiritual mentors. Our associations matter. Our matter of first preference should be to spend as much time as we can with other Christians. We need spiritual mentors and heroes in our life. That is, people who by proven decades of service and stability in Christ demonstrate themselves as someone whose faith should be followed. These are those that, when we get to be their age, we hope to possess some of their character traits and dispositions.
How much of a priority is it for you to be connected to other Christians? What does all this have to do with being deeply rooted in Christ?
On Sunday we will:
As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.
- What are my habits?
- Where are my thoughts?
- How is my confidence?
- Who am I following?
- Am I constant in prayer?

- Look at why spiritual mentors are important.
As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.
- Is there any validity to the principle in 1 Corinthians 15.33? Yes? No? Explain.
- What can we learn about Lot’s progression into Sodom? Was he unaffected by the worldliness around him?
- What does the Hebrew writer call upon us to do concerning our own spiritual leaders? (Hebrews 13.7)
- How do your spiritual mentors encourage you?
- Who is on your spiritual Mt. Rushmore?
