Friday First - Thirst for God

My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work, John 4.34. What did Jesus make as the center of his life? As His disciple, do you share the same desire and priority for your own life? For Jesus there was nothing more important than the Father and His will. He was totally devoted.

Thinking on these things can be challenge, because we often find ourselves in an intense struggle to subjugate our will to God’s. This is the human condition. So, how do we find success? How can we more effectively cooperate with God as He deepens our roots?

Over the course of February Kody & I will present some very practical lessons on how to become more established in the faith. For it to be possible we need to:
  • Examine our desire for God.
  • Prepare our minds.
  • Delight in the word.
  • Stand firm.

We must fight back against become self-satisfied, apathetic, or drifting. Surrendering to one or more of these problems is no way to live.

On Sunday we will:
  • Look at Matthew 5.6 and talk about what it means to hunger and thirst after righteousness
  • Examine Psalm 63 and see David’s personal identification with God
  • Learn how his relationship with God during the good times sustained him during the bad

As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.
  1. What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness?
  2. What are some distractions you fight as you try to serve God?
  3. What are some earthly things that could easily sidetrack your focus?
  4. What are some ways you can build intensity and closeness in your relationship with God?
  5. Why is it important to remember how God has been with you in the past? That he is with you in the present? That he will be there for you in the future?
