Clothed in Righteousness

Few images in Scripture are as beautiful as the wedding feast. Weddings bring us joy, laughter, tears, and celebration. They mark a covenant of love and the beginning of a new life together. In Revelation 19, John lifts our eyes to the greatest wedding of all—the marriage supper of the Lamb.

This vision comes after Babylon, the symbol of human pride and rebellion, has fallen. Heaven rejoices because God has judged evil. And now the focus shifts from ruin to glory, from lament to celebration. John hears the thunderous voice of heaven announcing: “The marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has prepared herself” (Revelation 19:7).

The imagery is rich:
  • The Bride is God’s people, redeemed by Christ.
  • The garments are the “fine linen, bright and pure” given to her—a symbol of the righteousness we receive in Christ and live out through faithful obedience.
  • The invitation is the greatest honor ever extended: “Blessed are those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb!” (v. 9).

This Sunday at Cornerstone, we will close our August series on The Righteousness of God by exploring how righteousness prepares us for eternity. We’ll look at the joy of the wedding, the purity of the garments, and the blessing of the invitation. And we’ll ask the most important question of all: Are you ready?

Come and be reminded that if you are in Christ, your name is already on the guest list. If you have not yet been baptized into Christ, the invitation remains open. Don’t leave your seat empty. Don’t leave your garment behind.

We hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we lift our voices in worship and open God’s word to glimpse the glory of that coming day when the church, clothed in righteousness, is presented to her Bridegroom.
  1. Revelation 19 describes the marriage of the Lamb as a time of joy and glory. Why do you think Scripture uses a wedding to picture Christ’s relationship with His people?
  2. Verse 8 says the Bride was “given fine linen to wear.”  What does this teach us about the source of our righteousness?
  3. John explains that the fine linen represents “the righteous acts of the saints.” How do we balance God’s gift of righteousness with our responsibility to live it out?
  4. Revelation 19:9 declares, “Blessed are those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb.” How should this promise affect the way we view our Christian walk today?
  5. Galatians 3:27 says we are “clothed with Christ” when we are baptized. What does it mean to keep that garment “bright and pure” as we await the Lord’s return?
