Sunday marks the culmination of 52 weeks of preaching and bible classes on the need to fix our eyes on Jesus. We need to heed the writing of Hebrews 12.1-2, laying aside every hindrance and sin, and keep our eyes on the Savior. During November we have focused on a great reality. One day we will see Jesus as He is, 1 John 3.1-2. And it is not just us who will see Him this way, every person who has lived, is living, and will live will see Jesus as He is. Before Him, every knee will bow, Philippians 2.10. We need to be ready. He is coming again. If you miss Him, you’ve missed everything.
Last week we were in 2 Timothy 4.6-7. Here we find Paul anticipating his death with a spirit of triumph. He is going home. He is going to be with Jesus. As we read the text, we should feel his joy, exhilaration, and triumph. He is filled with confident expectation and peace. This is the way to die.
Verse 6 focuses on the present. He is ready for his departure. He is ready to loose the ropes, leave the shore of this life, and anchor his vessel in the harbor of heaven. Verse 7 focuses on his past. Paul was faithful. He has no regrets, no sadness, no remorse, or fear of being incomplete. What God called him to do he did. Verse 8 looks at his future. He is confident of his future reward and honor.
There is no better passage to illustrate the way we want to encounter Jesus when this life is over. There is no passage that better describes a life well lived. On Sunday, we’ll continue our deep dive into verses 7-8.
On Sunday we will discuss:
As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.

On Sunday we will discuss:
- 2 Timothy 4.7: How to finish in triumph.
- 2 Timothy 4.8: How to view our future.
As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.
- What are some ways we get off track spiritually?
- What can we do to stay on track?
- What does “the faith” refer to?
- What does Paul call the reward?
- What is the reward?
