Friday First - What Made It Worth It
Jesus walked a life of sacrificial love. He touched down on earth in the form of a servant, knowing and embracing his purpose of redemption from the moment creation began. He knew he'd feel the nails in his hands. He knew a crown of thorns would be twisted over his head. He knew he would be hurt. Still, he left the comforts of heaven.
So, what made it worth it?
What was Jesus' motivation to pour out his whole life as a sacrifice for all of us? "For the joy set before him." Jesus lived a joyful life. Even though Jesus was called the man of sorrows, he also experienced great joy in the Holy Spirit. We see this in Luke 10.17-24 as Jesus disciples returned from the Limited Commission.
As they marveled at their newfound power over spirits, Jesus instructed his disciples to find joy in their own upward calling and heavenly destination. He reminded them not to get so caught up in WHAT they were doing (which was amazing in and of itself) that they forget the WHY. (Which was even more amazing.) Jesus reminded them of their purpose in God's amazing scheme of redemption.

That's why we're diving into Luke 10.17-24 together on Sunday to discover;
- How Jesus equipped his disciples for their divine purpose
- How Jesus reminds us of our big "WHY"
- The joy that can only be experienced by the Spirit
- Where Jesus' disciples fit into the big picture of the plan of redemption then and now
As you prepare for worship on Sunday, please give consideration to these questions:
- Why did Jesus give his disciples the power to cast out demons?
- What must it have felt like to be a disciple in Jesus’ first century ministry?
- Why does Jesus tell his disciples to rejoice in Luke 10.17-24?
- Where do disciples of Jesus fit into the “big picture” story of creation?
- Why is it worth it to go all-in on discipleship?
