Friday First - Redeeming Sons of God

Deuteronomy 18 contains an important prophecy. Israel is told through Moses that God would raise up a prophet like him from among their brothers. Throughout the rest of their history, they looked for that prophet. In the decades leading up to Jesus’ birth, the talk about a Messiah reached a fever pitch. By the time of Jesus, it wasn’t just the Jews who were looking for a king. Matthew 2 records the journey of the wise men who came to Jerusalem looking for the King of the Jews. Even the Romans got in the emotion of the moment. One of their historians pointed to the widespread belief that rulers from Judea were to acquire a universal empire. So we see, from east to west, there was a hungering for a Savior.

It is Paul who writes that God brought all things together to bring the Savior into the world. Galatians 4.4-5 is a key passage where Paul ties it all together. It is a far-reaching and comprehensive passage. As we have gone through our September sermon series, this passage keeps coming to mind. Everything came together just at the right time … in God’s perfect way … because of His plan to redeem us from sin and make us whole again. Nothing was left undone. It all worked so we could go back to Him.

What is tied up in Paul’s statement regarding time coming to completion?

On Sunday, we will focus on:
  • The context leading up to it
  • The event itself
  • The purpose of the event

As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.
  1. What does Galatians 3.13 say regarding Jesus’ purpose for going to the cross?
  2. Why was law given?
  3. Since Christ has come, what is the result for those who believe on Him? (3.26-27)
  4. What is the significance of Jesus being born of a woman?
  5. What does it mean to you that you have been adopted as a son or daughter of God?
