Friday First - Reflecting the Light

On Sunday we’ll continue our series of lessons introducing our 2022 Vision Plan. Over the course of next year we’ll be focusing on Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus. If we’re going to do this, first we must know who Jesus is. John 1.1-18 communicate two basic truths regarding Jesus. 1) The Word was God, 1.1. 2) The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, 1.14. Everything we believe and are as Christians hinges on these two statements. Jesus of Nazareth is God, revealed in human flesh, who is our deliverer from corruption and death. He is our only source of hope.

Last week we examined John 1.1-5. In that lesson we learned four basic truths about Jesus. Jesus is God, 1.1-2. Jesus is the Creator of all things, 1.3. Jesus is life, 1.4a. And finally, Jesus is light, 1.4b-5. Darkness cannot overcome Him. He has illuminated the pathway home. The way to Him and eternity is clear. Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life, John 5.24. For us, this should be a cause to rejoice!

This gospel has been written so that we may believe. Sunday’s sermon will you believe like you never have before.

In our lesson on Sunday we’ll move to the next section of John 1 and look at verses 6-8. What can we learn about Jesus? What can we learn about our mission?
  • John 1.6 - God sent a man called John.
  • John 1.7a - John came as a witness to testify about the light.
  • John 1.7b - The purpose of that testimony was that all might believe.

As you prepare for worship on Sunday, please give consideration to these questions:
  1. Who was John the Baptist? What was his purpose?
  2. What is a witness? What does it mean to testify?
  3. What did John testify about?
  4. What was the purpose of John’s testimony?
  5. As you consider John’s ministry, what are some applications to yours?
