Friday First - Victorious Light

After months of planning, prayer, and discussion, it is exciting to finally begin our new theme. Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus. If we’re going to fix our eyes on Him, it seems logical to ask, “Who is Jesus?” Is He just a great man? An amazing prophet? Or, is He the Son of God? Jesus is the Son of God manifested in human flesh, who became our deliverer from corruption and death. He is our liberator from sin. He is the one who provides hope.

During December, we want to discover who Jesus is by concentrating on John 1.1-18. These verses serve as the foundation for the claim made in John 20.31: Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus is the eternal One, the incarnate One, the One foretold by the prophets, the unrecognized One, the omnipotent One, and the One revealed in Glory.

John 1.1-18 declares that the word has become flesh. He has come into a dark world and is the light of the world. The time of guessing and groping is over. Days of doubt and uncertainty are finished. The pathway of darkness has become light and the way has become clear.

On Sunday, we will examine John 1.1-5 and discover how light is victorious over darkness and why you can rest your soul on this fact.
  • Light is Victorious Over Darkness, 1.5.
  • The Light is the Life of the Son of God, 1.4.
  • The Life is the Creator of All Things, 1.3.
  • The Light and Life is the Son of God, 1.1-2.

As you prepare for worship on Sunday, please give consideration to these questions:
  1. Who is the light of John 1.5? What has He overcome?
  2. How many lights are there? Explain.
  3. How does 1.5 provide hope as we live in a world where it appears darkness is prevailing?
  4. How do we know the light of Christ is stronger than darkness?
  5. Why does John 16.33 say we can be courageous?
