Lesson 7 - Where There Is No Wood

Proverbs 26:20 never tells anybody to put the fire out. It says a fire with no wood goes out by itself. Then it tells you who the wood is. This is the hardest lesson in the quarter and the reason is not obvious at first: most of the damage gossip does is not done by whoever starts the story. It is done by the people who pass it along. You will trace one of these chains, find where you stand in it and see what happens to the rest of the chain when you step out. And you will face the question the whole hour was built on: the passage never once asks whether the report was true.
