Galatians Overview

Sep 6, 2023    Matthew Allen

Galatians has rightly been called “the battle of the gospel.” In it we find a record of what became the first great theological battle in the history of the church. Galatians has always been considered one of Paul’s most important letters. On his initial journey, Paul formed vibrant churches primarily from Gentile converts. However, after his departure, some Jewish Christian dissenters visited these new churches. They promoted the belief that before attaining salvation, Gentiles must embrace Judaism—undergo circumcision (6:12) and adhere to the Mosaic law (3:5). Paul’s concern is immediately evident. I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from him who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel… Why the great sense of urgency?
