Lesson 7: Becoming Like Jesus

Jun 8, 2026    Matthew Allen

Somewhere between six months and a year in, most new believers catch themselves not looking like Jesus yet and conclude something has gone wrong. Lesson 7 hands them a different reading of Galatians 4:19: the verb is passive — Christ is the one being formed in you. You aren't the worker; you're the location where the Worker works. The lesson names the moralism trap (the quiet slide from "Christ is being formed in me" into "I'll work harder at forming Christ-shape in myself") and lands on a different kind of effort: not striving, but staying. Your part is to stay in the room where the slow, mysterious work of formation already happens — Scripture, prayer, the gathered church, honest confession — and trust the Worker with the timeline.
