Week 6: Testing the Brothers

Oct 11, 2026  •  George Wacks, Jason Schofield

The grain runs out, and Jacob finally has to let Benjamin go. Before he does, Judah stands up and offers his own life as the guarantee for his brother's safe return. That's a long way from the man who once asked what they'd gain by killing Joseph. In Egypt the pressure changes. Nobody's accused and nobody's locked up this time. The steward speaks peace, Simeon walks free, and the brothers end up eating at the governor's own table. Kindness turns out to be its own kind of test, though, and these guilty men can't stop reading every open door as a trap. When Benjamin's plate comes back five times fuller than theirs, Joseph is watching to see whether the old envy that started this whole story is still alive.
