Week 1 - The Assembly of the Faithful
Psalm 1 serves as a gateway to the Psalter, inviting us to make a fundamental choice about the path we will take. Charles Spurgeon describes it as the “preface” to the Psalms. This wisdom psalm introduces the doctrine of the “two ways”—the way of the righteous, who find blessedness through devotion to God’s Word, and the way of the wicked, which leads to judgment and ruin. Its culmination in the “assembly of the righteous” (v. 5) provides a vision of God’s chosen ones, where His people are blessed, fruitful, and secure under His care.
Studied alongside Acts 4:23-31, which showcases the early church as a living example of this assembly, this lesson establishes the foundation for our exploration of God’s reign. In this lesson, we will build toward the “assembly of the righteous” as the heart of God’s Kingdom, encouraging us to choose the path of blessedness and belonging.
