What Made It Worth It?
Jesus walked a life of sacrificial love. He touched down on earth in the form of a servant, knowing and embracing his purpose of redemption from the moment creation began. He knew he'd feel the nails in his hands. He knew a crown of thorns would be twisted over his head. He knew he would be hurt. Still, he left the comforts of heaven.
What made it worth it?
What was Jesus' motivation to pour out his whole life as a sacrifice for all of us? "For the joy set before him." Jesus lived a joyful life. Even though Jesus was called the man of sorrows, he also experienced great joy in the Holy Spirit. We see this in Luke 10.
As they marveled at their newfound power over spirits, Jesus instructed his disciples to find joy in their own upward calling and heavenly destination. He reminded them not to get so caught up in WHAT they were doing (which was amazing in and of itself) that they forget the WHY. (Which was even more amazing.) Jesus reminded them of their purpose in God's amazing scheme of redemption.
