Week 22: A Song of Deliverance

Apr 21, 2026    Matthew Allen

Second Samuel 22 records a long song of praise from David. It reflects on how the Lord delivered him from his enemies and from Saul. This chapter is almost identical to Psalm 18 and serves as a theological reflection on David’s life. Rather than focusing on a single event, this song looks back over many years of struggle. David recalls times of danger, opposition, and distress, and he gives credit to God for every deliverance. The chapter is not about David’s strength but about God’s power, faithfulness, and salvation.

The song describes God as a rock, fortress, and deliverer. It also emphasizes that God responds to those who call on Him and walk in His ways. David celebrates both God’s mercy and His justice. Behind every victory in David’s life was the hand of God. It calls us to reflect on God’s faithfulness and respond with gratitude and praise.
