Why We Serve

Jan 4, 2026    Matthew Allen

In Why We Serve (Mark 10:42–45), Jesus confronts the world’s definition of greatness and replaces it with the values of His kingdom. While the world measures importance by power, position, and control, Jesus teaches that true greatness is found in humble service to others. He draws a clear line between worldly ambition and kingdom living, calling His disciples to become servants rather than seekers of status. This call to serve is grounded in the gospel itself, as Jesus points to His own mission—coming not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. Rooted in grace rather than guilt, the sermon challenges believers to embrace service as the natural expression of following Christ and the true shape of a disciple’s life.
