Visit Widows and Orphans

While certainly not a comprehensive listing, James identifies the practice of true religious acts that are acceptable before God: Looking after orphans and widows in their distress, 1.27a and Keeping ourselves unstained from the world, 1.27b. True religion involves practical behavior. For example, Paul speaks of the need to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, 2 Timothy 2.22. Peter wrote about showing sincere brotherly love for each other, from a pure heart love one another constantly, 1 Peter 1.22. Religious observance without the practice of these things is nothing. It is empty, meaningless, and just a waste of time.
