When the Books are Opened

This Sunday at Cornerstone – November 2, 2025

There are moments in Scripture that stop us cold. Revelation 20 is one of them. John describes a great white throne and says, “The books were opened.” Every person, great and small, stands before God. Nothing is hidden. Every thought, word, and deed is revealed.

That picture can shake us—but it’s not meant only to frighten. It’s meant to remind us that God is just, that life matters, and that grace is real. For those who belong to Christ, another book will be opened—the Book of Life. It holds the names of all who have trusted in the Lamb. That’s the record that matters most.

This Sunday, we’ll talk about what it means to live in light of that day. What will the story of your life say? How can you live with confidence, not fear, knowing your name is written in heaven?

Join us as we open God’s Word and reflect on this powerful truth:

When the books are opened, grace still speaks louder than guilt.

  1. What emotions come to mind when you picture standing before the great white throne?
How do those feelings change when you remember that the Judge is also your Savior?
  2. If the record of your life were read today, what would it reveal about your priorities?
In what ways have you truly sought first the Kingdom and His righteousness this year?
  3. Why is it comforting—not frightening—for a Christian to think about the Book of Life?
How does the promise of grace give you peace when you think about judgment?
  4. How does knowing that “nothing done in faith is ever lost” change the way you serve God?
What small, unnoticed acts of faithfulness might God be recording in your “book”?
  5. Peter asks, “What kind of people should we be?” (2 Peter 3:11).
How can you live this week in a way that reflects the reality that eternity is near?
