Good News!

Another day, another grievous headline. Plagues, natural disasters, injustice on every hand. On top of this, constant division and consternation. Red takes, blue takes, the left says this, but the right says that…its inescapable now a days. It seems like all news is bad news—there’s fear to be had from every angle of every story. …So long as we’re counting on earthly kings to solve our issues, anyway. Truth is, every man is broken in their own way. From the poorest and least known to every ruler in every country.

So, when we look to the world expecting to find real peace, we won’t. It’s nothing new. While we may hold our own opinions, our ultimate solutions are not left or right—they are upward. We believe in a coming King. One that will knock off every earthly empire and bring forth his own kingdom and care for his own nation. “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people.” Daniel 2.44.

So, in a news cycle of constant bickering, hot takes, anger, and conflict—here is some good news.

2000-some years ago, a Jewish child was born in a manger surrounded by animals, cradled in the arms of a virgin as the prophet spoke. (Isaiah 7.14)

That child would come from the line of Abraham, who was promised long before that his offspring would bring salvation to every nation, as said Moses. (Genesis 22.18)

The child would become a man, who loved harder than anyone ever thought possible, as the prophet spoke. (Isaiah 61.1-2)

He was be rejected, beaten and killed…for our sake, as the prophet spoke. (Isaiah 53)

He  conquered death…as the psalmist said he would. (Psalm 16.10)

…and He will take all of our pain and wipe every tear from our eyes. Just like his beloved friend saw. (Revelation 21.4)

Good news. The King is coming. So, what have we to fear? Nothing. Not when we know our King is coming to set things right. It’s time for us to remember the promises of God, hold our heads high and reignite our zeal. In the face of whatever is to come…Let’s bring glory to God like never before. Amen?
